So the third good thing in line, was, I’m thinking, the diving yesterday.
Friday night was fun, hanging out with some work friends, and, I believe, having dinner just a couple feet from one of the Stanford basketball players. Can’t wait for the season to start!
I was kind of bitter and grouchy Saturday, as John decided he didn’t want to go diving. Gah. I had a new drysuit that I was desperate to test out, and to gain experience on before (a) the ocean class next weekend and (b) our trip to San Diego to go dive wrecks in three weeks. But nooooo, he wanted to just sit and do nothing all day.
So that’s what we did, and it honestly wasn’t too bad. It would have been an extremely enjoyable day if I hadn’t really wanted to go diving. We watched some TV, read some, did some cooking, and were just lazy. I was hoping to get in a bike ride to combat the no-excercise-due-to-lack-of-diving, but alas alack it was not to be. But it was mostly a good day.
Yesterday, however, was an excellent day. We went diving at Coral Street and Lovers 3 with James F and Cara, and I tried out my drysuit for the first time. And apparently, acquitted myself fairly well–John said I looked like a pro on my buoyancy, which is a great compliment, since most people have to relearn in a drysuit. It wasn’t perfect, but I didn’t drag along the bottom or shoot to the surface at all.
And the drysuit was great. No leaking and I stayed nice and dry. The neck seal was a little tight, but we’d had to guesstimate where to cut it, as my neck is small enough in circumfrence so as to be off the charts. Apparently we guessed a little small, as I have a bruise on my trachea and a headache when wearing the thing. BUT the diving was worth it.
Great weather, great conditions, good friends, good diving. We saw a hermit crab defending his territory, or maybe just being a bully, to two other hermit crabs, and watched some tiny jellyfish float along. We also spotted a California scorpionfish, somewhat rare around here, try to blend into a rock, which it failed to do.
Great day, so I’m guessing that’s my third thing.
Though I’m still hoping for the lottery…
